Cheryl in Mobile-land
For my friends, Erik & Cheryl
Once upon a time there was a lady named Cheryl. She was married to a gentleman named Erik. They have a blog here.
One day, Cheryl and Erik decided to climb out of the Mesozoic era and buy a mobile phone – their FIRST mobile phone!
[Ed – a bit harsh, but I’ve been bugging them for AGES]
Having decided on a Sony-Ericsson, it was off to Starhub (local phone company) to elicit a long wait and the patient help of Wilson.
[Ed – why a Sony Ericsson, when a Samsung was obviously far superior in terms of function, form and features, we will not elucidate here]
“Which one shall I buy?” asked Cheryl, peering closely at the silver and black models, just as Wilson disappeared without explanation yet again.
“No! Don’t you dare!” exclaimed Cheryl as someone attempted to take off with the last black one in stock.
Many people turned around to see:
1. Cheryl, who had exclaimed this across the room;
2. Wilson, who had taken off in pursuit of the last model; and
3. Three ang mos collapsing in hysterics every two minutes during the purchase of the mobile phone.
Finally, the missing ‘last model’ was recovered, and Cheryl was the proud owner of her
first ball and chain first mobile phone.
(Ed – If they didn’t recover the ‘last model’ we were going to have to wait another hour in a queue in the next room for other models that were exactly the same, but apparently couldn’t be transferred from the next room to the room we were in)
(I hate dealing with phone companies)

The welcome to the iron age… or is it the i-rang age?
Perhaps new age?
Anyway, seeing as it was your birthday yesterday, perhaps it’s just age!!! *kidding*

Hi Stephanie. Thanks for documenting this historic moment. But I take offence at the Mesozoic wisecrack–I am a proud longstanding citizen of the Bronze Age!
