Be safe with hotel safes [travel security tip]
When you’re travelling it’s quite common to leave passports and other valuables in hotel safes. For the most part you’ll be ok – most hotels are pretty careful about security in this age of Internet reviews.
Sometimes you might get a dodgy one, so whenever you use the safe:
1. Don’t use ‘1234’ as you safe code, and
2. Push your hand all the way to the back of the safe and make sure the back isn’t removable.
It has happened to me where the back was removable.
Also, don’t rely on suitcase locks, especially those that are 3-digit number coded. I have sat down and gone through every combination on one (SD15 changed it on me) and it only took me 45 minutes.
They are totally hack able in a number of other ways as well.
