Microsoft – Convert Word 2007 docx format

Docx2RTFMicrosoft are at it again.

If you have any version of Microsoft Office older than 2007, or use the free Office Software products (like OpenOffice), then you will be unable to open documents that are saved in the Office 2007 XML format.

Fortunately, there is a converter that works effectively on Windows systems for Word Processing documents. Check out the Docx2RTF converter  for converting docx files to rtf, which can then be opened in virtually any word processor. It will remove formatting, so if that is important, you may need to get the document originator to save the document as a “doc” file and resend it to you.

More information on the docx and other formats can be found on this Microsoft support page – Introduction to new file name extensions in Office 2007.

There is a DOCX to RTF converter that saves formatting. It also converts XLSX files to CSV. See:

Thanks for the link – and it looks pretty comprehensive. It’s not free, but it does permit you to save the formatting. At the end of the day I guess you get what you pay for! :)
