Faves this Week

I have not been as busy on this site as late as I have been (a) busy with life – lots to do, and (b) I have been working on getting a couple of other sites established.

The two other sites that I author are completely unrelated, but I find them both quite satisfying.

  1. Discovering OpenOffice, where I post questions that colleagues and clients ask about OpenOffice office productivity software and try and help them convert from Microsoft Office.
This week I had a particularly long post on performing a mail merge with Open Office, but for multiple purposes (ie. not for mailing letters). For example you might have invitations to send, username and password lists to mail out, etc.
  2. Resting Nite, a photo appreciation blog, particularly of photos that are posted on Flickr. For those that visit this blog often, you will be familiar with my pro-Flickr position, and Flickr has a section on their site called ‘Interestingness’. This is where photos have that certain something that appeals. I decided that I would put together something that has my own tribute to photos that have that certain something, as well as tips and tricks that I discover as I slowly learn to take my own photos! So this week I have two posts from this site… one is my favourite photo of the week, and the other is my favourite tip:

Hi Stephanie
Thanks for taking the time to leave your comments, and for playing with the “sweeper”. I wasn’t 100% happy with the photo, but your images have given me an idea I’ll try.

Yesbut – it appears that you are the only one that wasn’t happy with it… I’ve had feedback! Check out:

YesBut – I’m no expert, but you really went and applied some of the stuff from those links. You have an eye for colour and composition. The Pumpkins are awesome! Loved the tabletops too… and the sweeping photo was really good – so good that I couldn’t help playing with it – I hope you don’t mind. Check out:

 Hey kewl… glad this could help. If you think of any other information which would be useful, please post it here or on that blog, as I would quite happily put together a tutorial for you or anyone else!

The OOS info is a big help for ‘old school adminners’ familiar with Mailmerging in DOS, not having done it since in WinX, and knowing it’s possible as an optionin OOS. Good one!
