Letters ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’ & ‘d’ do not appear anywhere in the spelling of 1 to 99
(Letter ‘d’ comes for the first time in ‘Hundred’)

Letters ‘a’, ‘b’ & ‘c’ do not appear anywhere in the spelling of 1 to 999
(Letter ‘a’ comes for the first time in ‘Thousand’)

Letters ‘b’ & ‘c’ do not appear anywhere in the spelling of 1 to 999,999,999
(Letter ‘b’ comes for the first time in ‘Billion’)

And…

Letter ‘c’ does not appear anywhere in in the spelling of the entire set of English counting words.

You forgot about one of my favorite numbers…
one octillion.

That’s 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Of course, you’ll die before you get that far counting.

Also, if you live in one of those countries where a billion is 1,000,000,000,000 rather than 1,000,000,000, then an octillion would be even larger.

Well investigating your octillion, I am learning more than I ever wanted to about numbers on Wikipedia. Well that’s not strictly true – I love numbers – I just never expect to count this high. Thanks Brian! I’ll have to amend the above to say it never appears in the counting words we will most commonly use.
